Welcome to Graphic Design for Print 2026! (Module 1; Semester 1)

This module aims to develop a solid foundation in the fundamental principles and elements of design. Through exploration of foundational concepts and practical application, students will cultivate an informed understanding of composition, typography, and colour theory. By engaging in a series of design exercises, students will develop the ability to effectively apply these principles to create visually compelling and communicative designs. Additionally, students will gain familiarity with Adobe software and fundamental computer skills, which will be integrated into their design studies.

Additionally, it aims to develop students' proficiency in print-based graphic design, encompassing identity, collateral, and packaging design. Through a combination of foundational knowledge and practical application, students will acquire the skills to create effective visual communication solutions for print media. This module emphasises the importance of understanding print production processes, materials, and finishing techniques to achieve optimal design outcomes. Furthermore, the module emphasises critical thinking, problem-solving, and basic visual research to inform design decisions, while also developing skills in industry-standard design software and production techniques.

This module aims to facilitate the acquisition of essential techniques and digital skills needed for Graphic Design, using industry-standard Adobe software. Students will learn to manage design projects within a well-defined environment, applying standard processes of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation to solve design challenges. 

Additionally, students will compile a digital portfolio that adheres to professional standards, demonstrating their ability to communicate design concepts clearly and ethically, with an understanding of intellectual property and legal considerations.
